Is AI art, music & video allowed on Etsy, YouTube & Spotify?

The short version: almost every major platform now allows AI content but requires you to disclose it, and the penalty is for hiding it, not for using AI. The exact rule differs by platform and changes most months. Below is the current, sourced matrix, filterable by what you make, plus a dated feed of what changed.

Is AI music allowed on Spotify?

Yes, and disclosing it carries no penalty. Spotify allows AI music; your distributor submits a standardized DDEX AI disclosure in the credits. What Spotify targets is impersonating real artists and mass-uploading spam, caught by a behavioral spam filter it began rolling out in September 2025. Disclosed AI music is not down-ranked; getting caught hiding it later is treated more harshly.

Is AI music allowed on YouTube, and can you get Content ID?

Allowed and monetizable, but Content ID is conditional. Even AI music you fully own can be ineligible for Content ID if it is mass-generated, near-identical to other tracks, or imitates a real artist. AI disclosure has been mandatory since 2024 and is enforced more strictly in 2026. In 2026 the distributor Amuse disabled Content ID for AI music entirely; DistroKid, TuneCore, and CD Baby still offer it.

Can you sell AI art on Etsy?

Yes, from your own prompts, with disclosure. Select "Designed by" rather than "I made it" and add an explicit AI-disclosure statement in the listing. Etsy's detection is aggressive: it removed more than 12,000 listings and warned over 8,500 accounts in the first quarter of 2026 alone. Reselling raw AI prompt bundles is banned outright.

Do you have to label AI video on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube?

Yes, whenever it is realistic enough to be mistaken for real. TikTok auto-detects AI via C2PA Content Credentials (integrated January 2025) and removes unlabeled realistic AI; Instagram and Meta require you to label realistic synthetic media in settings; YouTube requires an "Altered or Synthetic content" disclosure on realistic AI video.

Your next question A platform allows it. But can you sell your exact thing on it? Knowing the rule is half the answer. Pick your tool and the platform in the checker for a sourced verdict on whether your specific output is sellable, what license you need, and the exact disclosure to add.
Which platforms ban AI content outright in 2026?

None of the major commercial platforms tracked here ban AI content outright. Spotify, YouTube, Etsy, Adobe Stock, Amazon KDP, ArtStation, TikTok, and Instagram all allow it with disclosure. The trend in 2026 is segregate-and-label, not ban.

What happens if you do not disclose AI content?

The penalty is almost always for non-disclosure, not for using AI. Consequences range from de-ranking and removed listings to demonetization and account suspension (Amazon KDP and Etsy are the strictest on enforcement).

How often do these AI policies change?

Most months something moves. In the last year alone Spotify added DDEX disclosure, Etsy ramped enforcement, Amuse cut Content ID for AI music, and the Supreme Court settled the copyright question. That is why this tracker is dated and re-verified monthly, and why the alert is worth it.
